In January 2010, the Obelisk Group signed a three year commitment to UNICEF Ireland. Working in over 150 countries across the world, UNICEF is committed to finding the best and most cost-effective ways to save children’s lives, providing health care, nutrition and education to help every child realise their full potential. Obelisk and its staff have pledged to raise €100,000 for the world’s poorest children over the next three years. Any money raised by an employee will be matched by the company, cent for cent. Throughout the year, if any staff member would like to organise a fundraiser, Obelisk will match euro for euro what they raise. At the end of the year, Obelisk plans to award a prize, along with a special ‘UNICEF Champion for Children Award’ to the top fundraiser of the year.

In the last two months alone, and since joining together with UNICEF in January, Obelisk and its employees have raised nearly €15000. Directors of Obelisk, Colm Murphy and Padraig Brady say of the partnership “We are thrilled to be supporting such a worthy cause, UNICEF has led a tireless crusade against disease and suffering, and funding will always be crucial to help care for the world’s most vulnerable children. This endeavour for us is all part of our corporate social responsibility, and our commitment to our communities”.

UNICEF provides children with medicine, clean water, nutrition, education, emergency relief and more. UNICEF has saved the lives of more children than any other humanitarian organisation, and relies solely on voluntary contributions. Despite extraordinary progress, 24,000 children still die each day from preventable causes. UNICEF’s mission is to do whatever it takes to make that number zero by giving children the essentials for a safe and healthy childhood.
